SUBJECT: This Week at Sanger - 1.6.26

January 6, 2026
🎉 Welcome Back! Happy New Year!

Happy New Year, everyone - whether you traveled for the holidays or stayed close to home, we hope you had a good break and are ready to get back to school!

We have some exciting announcements and celebrations to kick off this year, as well as some upcoming events.  Thanks for all you do to support your student(s) and help make Sanger great!

🎊 Celebrations 🎊
🔊 Sanger is IB Authorized 💙

Mr. Merritt sent a brief message on Remind the last week of school before the break, but he and our IB Coordinator, Ms. Yates, wanted to share a little more about what this authorization means for Sanger:

Our campus has officially been authorized as an International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) school. This is an important milestone and a reflection of the hard work, collaboration, and dedication of our students, teachers, and staff.

Becoming an authorized MYP campus means that our middle school students will continue to benefit from a rigorous, engaging, and globally minded education that emphasizes critical thinking, real-world problem solving, and student voice.

With this authorization in place, we also have exciting plans for thoughtfully rolling out IB-aligned learning experiences to our lower grade levels. Over the coming months, we will be sharing more about how these opportunities will support student growth and learning across our campus.

We are proud of this achievement and grateful for the ongoing support of our families as we continue to strengthen and expand our instructional programs.

Thank you for being part of this exciting journey with us!

🏆 Mr. Merritt DISD Region 5 Principal of the Year!

Congrats to Mr. Merritt on this achievement!!  What a way to kick off a new year!

✨ Sanger Beautification Day 🎨

Thank you to Ms. Yates for organizing, and to the students, parents, and staff for participating in the first Sanger Beautification Day.  We cleaned classrooms and painted Ms. McDonald’s office, baseboards in the hallway, and walls around the office.  We'll have more Beautification Days to come, so stay tuned!

This Week
DISD Special Services - Parent Training/Info Sessions

Dallas ISD is hosting spring workshops for parents of children who receive special services - some virtual, some in-person.  The first is this Thursday evening via Microsoft Teams:

🧰 Parent Toolbox Series: The Awareness Wrench
In this informative and empowering webinar, parents will learn how to use the “Awareness Wrench” - a powerful tool to help recognize, understand, and address conflicts that may arise in the special education process. Families will gain practical strategies to improve communication, identify common causes of disagreement, and advocate with confidence for their child’s needs.

👩‍🌾 Garden Workday 🍂

Current project - Sheet mulch the garden area, covering the grass. This includes installing a perimeter, laying down cardboard, and spreading mulch at the ground level, around the raised garden beds.

  • Saturday January 10 from 9-11:30 am
  • Sunday January 25 from 1-3:30 pm

Get Involved

Start the new year by planning ahead for some hands-on time on campus, there are so many ways you can be involved for just an hour or two here and there.  Every volunteer makes a difference!!  Whether it's staying on campus to help kids get in the door a few mornings, or tidying up the lost-&-found area, or helping in the library, opportunities are endless!

Ongoing Volunteer Needs

If you have any questions, please reach out to Katy Spartz (SangerVolunteering@gmail.com) or Ms. Cerrillo (cacerrillo@dallasisd.org).
