Alex Sanger was allocated funding in both the 2020 and 2026 DISD Bonds. We were Phase 3 for the 2020 Bond and Phase 1 for the 2026 Bond; work will be combined into one multi-phase project.
September 20, 2026 Update
Construction for the 2020 bond began in the summer of 2026 to modernize and improve the spaces where students learn, eat, play, and grow every day.
π Phase 1 — Now through End of October 2026
- Areas: Front secure vestibule, administrative offices, reception area, and storage room behind the Cyber Café
- When complete, our campus will have a new secure entry vestibule — a controlled access point that
enhances safety for every student and staff member who walks through our doors. - The renovated administration area will include updated offices, restrooms, and a modern reception space. The storage room behind the Cyber Café will also be completed during this phase, which will allow us to consolidate book storage currently housed in a temporary container on campus.
π Phase 2 — November 2026 through Christmas Break
- Areas: Nurse's office, new teachers' lounge, gymnatorium, stage, coaches'
storage and office - Once the new administration area is complete, the current reception and admin spaces will be converted into an updated nurse's office and a new teachers' lounge. At the same time, work will begin on the gymnatorium, stage, and coaches' office and storage areas.
- This work will continue through the start of Christmas break.
π Phase 3 — Christmas Break 2026 through Summer 2027
- Areas: Cafetorium, kitchen, serving area, and boys'/girls' restrooms
- During Christmas break, crews will begin the renovation of the cafetorium, kitchen, and the restrooms that serve the dining area. This is the largest interior phase of the project.
- Because the kitchen and cafeteria will be out of service during portions of this work, the campus team is developing a plan to ensure students continue to receive meals — which may include temporary serving arrangements in an alternate location on campus.
- We will share those details as they are finalized. This phase is expected to be completed by the end of summer 2027.
π Phase 4 — Summer 2027
- Areas: Cyber Café, second-floor bathroom, Pre-K bathrooms, and storage near
the elevator - The final phase of interior work will take place during summer 2027when
students are not on campus. This includes the creation of a new Cyber Café — a
modern, flexible learning and collaboration space — along with restroom
upgrades for our Pre-K students and second-floor restroom renovations.
What Else Is Included?
In addition to the interior renovations, this project includes:
- Safety & Security: New cameras, card access readers, and a secure front
vestibule - HVAC/Mechanical: Upgraded air conditioning and heating systems throughout
the campus - Plumbing: New kitchen gas piping, grease trap, and hot water heater
- Lighting: New LED lighting in hallways and all renovated areas
- Fire Alarm: Updated fire alarm system integrated with new construction
- Exterior: Power washing and painting of the building exterior
- Accessibility: Replacement of the temporary ramp with permanent concrete
stairs and ADA-compliant ramp - Signage: New digital marquee sign at the front entrance
- Audio: Updated sound system in the gymnatorium
